Create a Killer Elevator Speech

When you meet people at a networking event they want to know how what you do relates to them. Do you want the reaction to be “I want to know more!” or “Ho hum, I’ll never do business with them”?

You have less than five seconds to make your point and spark the interest of the person you are speaking to.

Piece of cake? One sentence to encapsulate everything that has taken you months or years to define. At the same time conveying how what you do is something the listener needs.

My audio logo is “I work with action oriented retailers, small businesses and independent professionals to develop distinctive brands, strategies, and messages to improve their marketing results”.

This elevator speech clearly identifies the target group and what I do and states the benefit of my business. They don’t want to be bored with a long explanation of how I set up systems, do research, and create marketing plans.

To create your elevator speech, answer the following questions:

Who are you?

Who do you work with?

What do you do for the people who do business with you?

Remember, you need to catch someone’s interest and appeal to their needs so make it interesting for them. Help them understand why what you do is important to them.
